attendance

{1} Set importance on regular attendance! It is important that dancers make every effort to be in class each week. This is an important part in helping your dancer learn discipline and commitment. Missing lessons will create gaps in their training. This will cause a distraction in the flow of the educational process. At 3 or more unexcused absences teacher reserves the right to pull them from performances. It is difficult for teachers to re-teach only a few students because of missed classes. However, we understand that it is almost impossible to never miss class.

{2} Dancers must be on time! It is unsafe for dancers not to be properly stretched and warmed up for class.

{3} Attendance is MANDATORY the 2 weeks before any performance or recital. Unless PRIOR arrangements have been made, dancers who miss class the 2 weeks before a performance will be removed from the performance.

{4} Please be courteous of our staff and their schedules and make sure that your dancer is both dropped off and picked up ON TIME after each class.

NOTE: Gravity Dance Center follows the Iron County School District Calendar for attendance. No school - No dance! Any month that has a 5th week is considered a "floating week". You are not charged for the 5th week. Class may be cancelled if necessary if there is a floating week.

tuition

{1} Tuition is due the first class of each month. Tuition is for dance lessons ONLY. All payments are non-refundable. A $5.00 late fee will be assessed after the 25th of the month. Gravity Dance Center accepts the following forms of payment: Automatic Payment, Check, Cash or Money Order. There are no refunds on monthly tuition.

{2} No refunds, credits or transfer of funds on missed classes - NO EXCEPTIONS!

{3} All checks should be payable to Gravity Dance Center.

{4}Monthly statements and invoices are available upon request.

NOTE: Registering commits you to a nine-month season. If a student must withdraw, a request must be submitted in writing prior to the next payment period to avoid being charged. Failure to attend does not indicate drop out. We will not pro-rate for missed classes and no refunds are given. Gravity Dance Center will charge monthly fees whether or not the dancer is present until properly notified.

registration

{1} The yearly registration fee is $50 per dancer OR $40 per dancer if there are more than one dancer per family.

{2} Registration includes a Gravity shirt as well as our Fall & Spring Recital fees.

{3} We hold our annual “open” registration at the studio usually one to two weeks after school starts in August and our 2011 -2012 season starts in September.

{4} ALL fees are NON-REFUNDABLE!

studio etiquitte

{1} At Gravity Dance Center one of our main focuses will be to teach dancers proper studio etiquette, recital etiquette, as well as audition preparation. We will be clear about what is expected, and not acceptable in every situation. Please help us enforce the things we are teaching your dancers.

{2} Always get to class 10-15 minutes before your lesson begins. Being early will help you dancer prepare physically and mentally for the best lesson (even at a very young age). Make sure your dancer(s) have the correct clothing and shoes ready, and have their hair up in a proper fashion for their class.

{3} Remind your dancer to act accordingly at all time in class. Instructors have the right to dismiss your dancer from the lesson, or the class room, if they are being disruptive or disrespectful.

{4} Do not disturb the teacher or the students during any lesson.

{5} No gum chewing in class, please!

{6} If a student must leave early, the teacher must be notified prior to the beginning of the lesson.

{7} If you need to speak with the teacher, please leave her a note at the front desk or e-mail her with any questions or concerns.

observation

{1} Direct observation of the class IS A DISTRACTION to the teacher and the students. All observation must be minimal. ALL conversation and activity in the lobby must be kept to a minimum as well. Please be respectful of our facility.

{2} You are welcome to observe your dancer's class FROM THE LOBBY through the observation windows, provided that you do not disrupt the instruction or the class.

recitals

{1} We will hold 2 recitals annually. A "Fall Recital" in November and a "Spring Showcase" in May. With the exception of tumbling, ALL CLASSES will perform in each recital.

{2} Dance is a performing art, and while not all dancers love the performing aspect, it is important that they build the confidence to perform with their class. We will do our part to ensure your dancers are prepared and confident in their dances.

{3} We PROMISE that your dancer will have a positive experience at each performance.

{4} With our classes being jazz, ballet, tap combo classes we will run our recitals a little differently than other studios. We understand that you don't want to sit through a 3 hour recital, and have come up with a plan to reduce unnecessary recital length.

The following is an example of how our recitals will run:

Fall Recital

Ballet: all dancers will perform in a big ballet routine, featuring all dancers and all skill levels.
Dancers will wear the "studio basics." No other costume will be required.

Class Dances: each dancer will perform a jazz routine. Dancers will wear the "studio basics" with an accessory (headband, gloves, tights, etc.) that compliments their dance. These accessories will remain property of Gravity Dance Center. Dancers will be charged if the items are not returned, or not returned in good condition.

Hip-Hop & Modern: classes will perform one dance at each recital and will pay $10 for accessories to wear with the "studio basics." Cheer classes will wear the Gravity shirt and studio basics shorts.

Spring Showcase

Tap: all dancers will perform in a big tap routine, featuring all dancers and all levels. Dancers will wear the "studio basics." No other costume will be required.

Class Dances: each dancer will perform a jazz routine, this is the routine dancers will compete with and receive a full costume for.

Hip-Hop & Modern: classes will perform one dance at each recital and will pay $10 for accessories to wear with the "studio basics." Cheer classes will wear the Gravity shirt and studio basics shorts.

Admission to the recitals is FREE.

competitions

{1} All teams, jazz and JBT classes will participate in one competition in the spring. Performing Teams participate in two competitions during the season.

{2} There is a fee for each dancer to participate at each competition. This fee covers competition registration, participation and awards. All dancers must attend and participate at competition.

studio basics

{1} "Studio Basics" are REQUIRED for each dancer. They can be worn to class, as long as they remain in good condition, as they will be worn in the recitals.

Required Studio Basics:
Black Leotard
Black Dance Shorts
Tan Tights
Tan Shoes

{2} The "studio basics" can be purchased at any time from the studio, and are very affordable.

{3} Dancers MUST purchase the specific items by November 1st!

costumes

{1} One "costume" will be required for each class each year. We will wear the same tan tights and shoes, otherwise it will be included in the costume fee.

{2} Costumes will always be stylish, age appropriate, and high-quality. Hair and Make-up guidelines will be given and expected to be followed at every age!

dress code

Dress code is a VERY important part of your dancer’s education. It creates and sense of unity and keeps things simple for everyone. Please observe these guidelines:

Dance Clothes:
{1} Dancers may wear tight fitting dance attire. Again, studio basics are the best to wear to class. The following attire is also considered appropriate: leotards, tights, dance pants, dance shorts, and tank tops. Please be respectful and modest. Pajamas, jeans and/or regular “play/school clothes” are considered inappropriate for class.

We have a dressing room available at the studio.

{2} PLEASE NO COSTUMES OF ANY KIND to be worn to class. It takes away from the learning process.

{3} Loose jewelry or watches are not to be worn by students in any dance class (small stud earrings are okay).

{4} HAIR must be pulled off the face - pony tail, bun or braids only - please NO excessive bows, clips, flowers, etc. they become a distraction.

Shoes:
{1} Dancers MUST bring their dance shoes to wear at each class. Only dance shoes are allowed on the dance floor.

{2} ALL dancers will need proper shoes to practice and perform in. Gravity Dance Center offers quality shoes at affordable prices that are always available to purchase.

calendar & notifications

All studio information goes home through e-mail and is posted on the blog. It is the parent & dancers responsibility to make sure we have the correct email address and that you check it often. A calendar is on the blog, please check it often to ensure you know what's going on at the studio!
